Softening
Water from many outlets in Poland is characterized by high hardness (content of calcium and magnesium compounds). Water hardness causes excessive consumption of cleaners and detergents, as well as formation of limescale, which leads to energy loss and reduced service life of household goods.
Water softening is the process of removing from water components which cause its hardness. It is based on replacement of calcium and magnesium ions responsible for water hardness for sodium ions. The whole process takes place during water flow through ion-exchange resin. When the bed ion-exchange ability is run-down, the bed is exposed to regeneration process through the saline solution.
